\nIELTS is the only Secure English Language Test approved by\u00a0UK Visas and Immigration\u00a0(UKVI) for visa customers applying both outside and inside the UK. It also meets requirements for\u00a0immigration to Australia, where TOEFL and Pearson Test of English Academic are also accepted,\u00a0and New Zealand. In Canada, IELTS,\u00a0TEF or\u00a0CELPIP\u00a0are accepted by the immigration authority.

IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training are designed to cover the full range of ability from non-user to expert user. The Academic version is for test takers who want to study at tertiary level in an English-speaking country or seek professional registration. The General Training version is for test takers who want to work, train, study at a secondary school or migrate to an English-speaking country.
\nThe difference between the Academic and General Training versions is the content, context and purpose of the tasks. In the General training, the 4 modules relates to more of everyday social context, conversations and discussions while the academic training includes more of educational based questions and passages. All other features, such as timing allocation, length of written responses and reporting of scores, are the same.
\nAn IELTS result or\u00a0Test Report Form\u00a0is issued to all test takers with a score from “band 1” (“non-user”) to “band 9” (“expert user”) and each institution sets a different threshold. There is also a “band 0” score for those who did not attempt the test. Institutions are advised not to consider a report older than two years to be valid, unless the user proves that they have worked to maintain their level.
\nThe four parts of the IELTS test<\/p>\n
Listening: 30 minutes (plus 10 minutes’ transfer time) – This part consists of 4 recordings – 2 set in everyday social context and other two in eductaional scenario, and it features multiple choice questions, matching diagram, labeling,sentence completeion and short answers.<\/p>\n
Reading: 60 minutes – This skill tests using 3 passages including 10-15 questions each. The questions asked through the passages to be read are gotten from journals, books, magazines,newspapers – narrative,descriptive and argumentative essays logical talks.<\/p>\n
Writing: 60 minutes – This aspect evaluates the student ability to describe visual information in graphs, tables, charts or diagrams for the first part and to give his own viewpoint in an argument or discussion in the second part while paying attention to the vocabulary range, spellings and grammar.<\/p>\n
Speaking: 11\u201314 minutes – here, an examiner conduts an oral interview with the student while recording his responses. He first asks familiar questions relating to work, family, studies and interests of the test taker, after he gives follow up questions and then enters into a two-way discussion with the student.<\/p>\n
The test total time is:\u00a02 hours and 45 minutes.
\nListening, Reading and Writing are completed in one sitting. The Speaking test may be taken on the same day or up to seven days before or after the other tests.TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
\nTOEFL (fully known as Test of English as a Foreign Language\u00ae) is a standardized test\u00a0to measure the\u00a0English language\u00a0ability of non-native speakers as well wishing to enroll in English-speaking universities. The test is accepted by many English-speaking\u00a0academic\u00a0and professional institutions. TOEFL is one of the two major English-language tests in the world, the other being the\u00a0IELTS.
\nTOEFL is a trademark of the\u00a0Educational Testing Service (ETS), a private non-profit organization, which designs and administers the tests like GRE, etc. ETS issues official score reports, sent independently to institutions, for two years following the test.
\nSince its introduction in late 2005, the TOEFL Internet-based Test (iBT) format has progressively replaced the computer-based tests (CBT) and paper-based tests (PBT), although paper-based testing is still used in select areas.
\nThe four-hour test consists of four sections, each measuring one of the basic language skills (while some tasks require integrating multiple skills), and all tasks focus on language used in an academic, higher-education environment. Note-taking is allowed during the TOEFL iBT test. The test cannot be taken more than once every 12 days.<\/p>\n
The TOEFL iBT test is scored on a scale of 0 to 120 points.
\nEach of the four sections (Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing) receives a scaled score from 0 to 30. The scaled scores from the four sections are added together to determine the total score.
\nThe reading and listening sections are tested first, followed by a ten-minute break. The speaking and writing sections are then completed following the break. A maximum amount of 250 minutes is allowed to complete the whole exam process.<\/p>\n
Each speaking question is initially given a score of 0 to 4, and each writing question is initially given a score of 0 to 5. \nDELF-DALF (Dipl\u00f4me d’Evaluation\/d’Approfondi de la Langue Fran\u00e7aise)
\nDELF (Dipl\u00f4me d\u2019Etudes en Langue Fran\u00e7aise) and DALF (Dipl\u00f4me Approfondi de Langue Fran\u00e7aise) are official qualifications delivered by the French Ministry of Education to certify competencies of international standard in the French language. They were designed to accompany the teaching and learning of French, by proposing the validation and certification of an internationally recognized level of competence, at the end of training.\u00a0DELF and DALF are lifetime certificates.
\nDELF and DALF are composed of 6 levels, each independently recognized as a diploma. Candidates can take the examination of their choice, according to their level. These diplomas are awarded by the French Ministry of Education in 154 countries. For adults, professionals, teenagers and kids!
\nAt each level, 4 skills are evaluated: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Each part is on 25 points (the total mark is on 100 points). A mark of at least 50\/100 is required in order to be awarded the certificate.
\nPeople who have passed the DELF B2 are exempt from taking language tests for entrance into French universities. The diploma can help them find a job around the world and let them enrol in French universities (B2, C1 diplomas) and prestigious universities (engineering, business, political science). \nThe test is made up of compulsory and optional sections. The reading, listening and language structures sections are mandatory while the writing and speaking sections are optional.
\nTEF (Teste d’Evaluation de Fran\u00e7ais)
\nThe TEF Canada (fully known as Test d\u2019\u00c9valuation de Fran\u00e7ais pour le Canada\u00a0is a test of general French which assesses the level of proficiency in French of francophones and non-francophones alike.
