Never underestimate the steps taken by Provinces and Territories in Canada as per immigration to their communities. Better than before, they are in constant need of immigrants to fill up their vacant job posts in order to boost their growing economy. In fact, it is either you will get selected if you are in the right pool at the right time or you simply limit your own invitation. Just yesterday, Alberta Provincial Nomination Program (PNP) held its largest draw ever with Cumulative Ranking Score (CRS) cutoff at 300. It invited 500 Express Entry (EE) candidates to apply for a provincial nomination.
Alberta PNP Draw
Alberta invited 500 Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination on September 7. Following two large draws in August, the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) held its largest draw to date. The previous record was 473 in March 2019.Invited candidates were in the Express Entry system, and their score had to be at least 300, the minimum requirement to qualify for the Alberta Express Entry stream.Alberta has now invited 4,507 Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination since it resumed invitation rounds in January 2021. It had taken a temporary hiatus in the latter months of 2020. Alberta is allowed to issue 6,250 nomination certificates in 2021.
How Alberta Express Entry Stream work?
The Alberta Express Entry stream is an enhanced Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). It allows the provincial government to search the federal government’s Express Entry pool of candidates for profiles of people who may be eligible for a provincial nomination.Express Entry is the application management system for the three Federal High Skilled programs: Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and Federal Skilled Trades Program. If you are eligible for Express Entry, you will get a score based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). You get points depending on your age, education, work experience, language ability in English or French, and other factors.Canada’s immigration department, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) regularly holds Express Entry draws, inviting the highest-scoring candidates to apply for permanent residence. It is possible to immigrate through the Express Entry system without a provincial nomination, however, people who have lower CRS scores may opt for a PNP. Provincial nominees automatically get 600 points added to their overall score. If the lowest-scoring candidates in the new Alberta draw receive the nomination, their new CRS scores will be 901, more than enough to be invited in a subsequent Express Entry draw.Alberta Express Entry Stream Eligibility
In order to be eligible for the provincial nomination through the Alberta Express Entry stream, you need to have work experience in an eligible occupation. The AINP does not provide a list of eligible occupations, rather it offers a list of occupations that are not eligible for the stream. Many who apply under this stream work as food service supervisors, transport truck drivers, and cooks among others.Your Express Entry profile should indicate that you have an interest in moving to Alberta. Certain factors increase your likelihood of being nominated, like having work experience, or a job offer in Alberta. A Canadian education helps too. Also, having a parent, child, or sibling who is a permanent resident or citizen in Alberta supports your application.
Canada holds September CEC draw
Canada invited 2,000 Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent residence on September 14. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates with scores of at least 462. Invited candidates now have 60 days to apply for permanent residency. This draw comes later than expected, as this year IRCC has typically held a CEC draw after a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw. Usually, IRCC holds a PNP draw on Wednesdays followed by a CEC draw on Thursday. However, the CEC draw expected on September 2 did not come.IRCC has now held the draw one day before the next PNP-specific Express Entry draw is expected to occur. All hands on deck to process CEC applications
Although IRCC is backlogged, the department has pushed its resources to focus on processing CEC applicants, according to the government webpage. Currently, officers are finalizing CEC applications received in January. The department says all other Express Entry applicants can expect delays. In order to meet its 2021 immigration targets amid travel restrictions, IRCC has focused its efforts on immigration applicants who are already in Canada. The majority of CEC candidates in the Express Entry pool apply from inside the country, since Canadian experience is a key eligibility factor. CEC candidates must have at least one year of full-time Canadian work experience in a skilled occupation.
Express Entry invitations almost double 2020 levels
IRCC has nearly doubled the number of Invitations to Apply (ITAs) issued year-over-year. With more invitations comes a higher chance that IRCC will admit its target of 108,500 newcomers through the Express Entry system in 2021.The minimum score requirements have been up and down due to the nature of CEC- and PNP-only draws. CEC draws typically have lower cutoffs because the draws are concentrated in the one group of applicants. They are not competing with others in the Federal Skilled Worker Program, for example. So, with bigger draw sizes, IRCC can invite more candidates, thus bringing the score down.PNP candidates automatically get 600 points with their provincial nomination, so PNP draws will always be higher than any other type of Express Entry draw. PNP draws since June have ranged from the low 740s to 760.The Next Call of Action
Do not doubt the possibility of getting selected in either ways: through PNP or CEC. Sadly, Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) under the EE pathway has not been functional for the most part of the year. However, you can use the latter two methods to apply and get invited just within weeks or months from now. Want to start your processing now?
